In yesterday’s post on digital literacy I mentioned that the Danish Institute of Technologies page on digital literacy stated that digital literacy had to be underpinned by the development of basic literacy skills. In this short video from the PBS in the USA, Mark Bauerlein, professor at Emory University and the author of The Dumbest Generation, talks about the increasingly worrying literacy levels of college students, employees and staff members. From work that I’ve done with the business and academic writing programmes for the online tutoring service English4Today, I’d say that this is not restricted to the USA but that it is a problem in all English speaking countries.
